Many would-be herb gardeners have the desire to create an herb garden but simply do not know how to get started.  It seems, sometimes, that as one question is answered for us that two more are asked.  For example, which herbs thrive when grown from seeds?  What type of soil is best for growing herbs?  Many times the best way to have your questions answered and get started quickly is to purchase an herb garden kit.

Culinary herbs, medicinal herbs, German herbs, salsa herbs, herbal tea herbs, and Italian herbs are but a few of the different types of herbs available in a kit.  No two herb garden kits are identical but each one contains common items that ensure you have a successful start to your herb garden.

Herb seeds are the one item that is in all herb garden kits.  To help stabilize the temperature and provide a consistent humidity level some kits have a greenhouse-like, clear, plastic dome that sits over the seeds and seedlings.  This greenhouse helps the plant to develop a healthy root system which, in turn, ensures a thriving plant.  Each kit will have a guide-book that list easy-to-follow directions that practically guaranteed success.

Many of the culinary herb kits include a recipe guide to give you examples of how best to use your new herbs in your family's meals.  A good number of the online sources for herb kits offer a subscription to an email newsletter that contains recipes and other helpful information.

At a minimum, kits will contain the planting container to grow your herbs.  Either the proper soil is included or, sometimes, growing pellets to start you seed are part of the kit.

There are many benefits to growing herbs indoors from a kit.  You can enjoy your herbs considering these are within easy reach.  No more heading outside to the garden just to collect some herbs for your cooking.  Having herbs inside makes it easy to harvest herbs for drying or freezing for storage.  Because your house provides stable growing conditions there is no need to protect plants that won't tolerate winter weather.

When looking for a way to grow herbs in a small room or apartment herb kits (most are small and compact) make ideal growing platforms.  Indoor growing makes it easier to control the amount of light your herbs receive, especially compared to an outdoor garden.  Indoors the amount of water is also under your complete control.  Try controlling the amount of rainfall outside.  There is no more guessing about the proper steps to take when learning to grow herbs when each herb kit includes a thorough instruction manual.  You can garden with an indoor herb kit with full confidence of success.

You will, of course have a great deal of satisfaction when you become an expert herb gardener, confident enough to grow any herb you desire.  However, it takes time and experience to become an expert and beginning with an herb garden kit is a good move.  Good herb kits remove the obstacles allowing you to focus on enjoying your new herb garden.  You will learn about your herbs a little at a time, moving these, as you desire, to an outdoor garden when the plant and your knowledge allows.  Congratulations, you are about to become an herb expert.
